" A School
is a place where critical and co-operative learning help students
learn to make intelligent decision. It is where the students and
teachers challenge each other to develop their ideas, communicating
clearly, and applying them to real-life situation. It is a place
where all students can develop their talents and find their own
places in the world. It is a place where knowledge is valued not
just for achievement of awards, but for lifetime rewards.
It is eminently in place for me to, at this
point call to memory the vision that the founder president of Basava
Samithi and former Vice-President of India Dr. B.D. Jatti cherished.
He was of the strong view that "in establishing an egalitarian
society, it is a fundamental requirement. Education is the most
important factor". It was in the year 1993 that Dr. B.D. Jatti
expressed his intense desire to set up a residential school that
exclusively catered to girls, especially from a rural background.
I found my self spontaneously in tune with his vision and thus in
the year 1993. "The Basava Residential Girls' School"
was established by the Basava Samithi with the objective of spreading
the message of social equality to women as preached by Basaveshwara
and his contemporaries in the 12th century.

From a mere strength of 12 students
in 1993, I am proud to say that, today the Basava Residential Girls'
School and P.U. College has under its wings very many students.
I have envisioned for his noble institution a goal of becoming a
comprehensive Girls' University and I am happy to find it making
rapid strides towards that goal".
