The Core Ethos

Basava Samithi since its inception from 1964, has been publishing books on the philosophy advocated by Guru Basava and his contemporaries. Since over 40 years, Samithi has the distinction of publishing journals in English, Kannada and Hindi.  It has added Magazine in Marathi language too since 15 years.  The magazines in different languages has helped Samithi to achieve its main objective for which it has been established to reach  Magazines cater to the people speaking different languages.  In order to communicate the principles of the 12th century Samithi took up arduous task of publishing dictionary for technical words often used in Vachana literature.  Samithi also took very conscious decision of inculcating the philosophy in youngsters and in order to cater to their need Samithi has the distinction of publishing short stories under the title ‘Sharana Kathamanjari’ series

Samithi has also published many research books on theosophy and books related to Archeological importance on inscriptions etc.  In addition to cater to the needs of general public Samithi has been publishing diaries, calendars audio cassettes, animation films etc., need based with the changing times.  A special mention needs to be done about a research book namely contemporaries of Basaveshwara  (Basaveshwara Samakaleenaru) which has the lives sketches of over 156 Sharanas.  This book has the record of getting republished due to public demand as it is one of its kind in the field of  Vachana literature.  Basava Samithi has also published novels written by renowned personality late Shri B. Puttaswamaiah.  Yet an another book worth mentioning is the set of three books titled ‘Sharana Smarakagalu’ written by two great Research personalities namely, Dr Veeranna Dande and Dr Jayashree Dande.

Basava Samithi in its continued mission took up the most important task of multilingual Vachana Translation Project in the year 2008.  We have the honour of placing on record the number of languages to which translation is completed,  namely, Kannada, English, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, Sindhi, Rajasthani, Kashmiri, Bhojpuri, Assami, Santali, Odiya, Mythili, Tulu, Konkani, Kodava and Angika.  This project was headed by the most revered literary personality late Dr M.M. Kalburgi and supported by over 25 literary stallwards of different languages and the entire team comprising of nearly 250 experts in translation, and publication.
